Message from TSU —

Texas Southern University has ended the campus-wide lockdown following a shooting incident earlier this morning.

However, the Courtyard Building 1 remains under police restriction and lockdown.

TSU Police along with the Houston Police Department are still investigating the shooting. Two victims were transported to the hospital. Subsequently, one has been pronounced deceased and the other was listed in serious but stable condition. Family notifications have been made, and all other students are safe at this time.

Police have two (2) persons of interest in custody. The suspected shooter remains at large.

Counseling by the University Counseling Center is available for all students. Classes will resume on Monday morning.

HOUSTON — Texas Southern University in Houston has announced the campus is on lockdown following a shooting incident just that occurred around 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Early reports indicate two persons are shot, their conditions are not known right now, according to TSU website.

The suspect is still at large.

Classes are canceled for the remainder of the day.

It is not known is Friday’s shooting is related to an overnight Thursday incident that occurred in the area of University Courtyard apartments.

“The recent shooting incidents on our campus have been extremely difficult and troubling for our entire university community. In the wake of these incidents, our campus security and police department is increasing its presence and will continue to work closely with the Houston Police Department, Harris County Sherriff’s Office and the Precinct 7 Constables Office. We’ve always had these relationships – but we realize that it will require a total effort from everyone to keep our students safe,” according to a statement from TSU.

TSU PD reminds all students, staff and visitors to the campus to remain vigilant and to report all suspicious activity, no matter how minor it may seem.
