Ila Aline Coody

Ila Aline Coody, 94, of Port Arthur, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 in Lumberton, TX where she resided for 4 months.
She was born in Port Arthur, Texas on December 17, 1920 to Prince Olive and Ila Olive and was a lifelong resident. She attended Bethany Nazarene College where she met and married her husband of 72 years, Vernon Coody. They raised their 3 children in Port Arthur.
Aline was a dedicated and lifelong member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Port Arthur. She was Youth Director, taught Sunday school, directed Vacation Bible School and was church pianist until age 90.
She was a lifelong teacher, having served in the Port Arthur Independent School system for 20 years.  She taught music and elementary school. After earning a certification in Special Education, she dedicated herself to teaching and working with intellectually disabled students. Even after retirement from the school district, she continued to tutor students in her home. Aline enjoyed handwork, including crochet, knitting, making dolls and needlepoint. She also loved flowers, gardening and birdwatching.  Aline is preceded in death by her two sisters, Thelma Carleton and Lois Davis and two brothers, P.A. and James Olive.  She is survived by her loving husband Vernon, of Port Arthur, TX; two daughters, Sandra Wright and husband Dennis of Beaumont, TX and Carol Schram and husband Harold of Kountze, TX, and son, Gary Coody of Silver Spring MD, grandchildren Kevin Schram, Kim Alcorn, Tamara Miller and Jennifer Lyles, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Paul and Joyce Lopez of Whispering Oaks and their staff and Texas Total Hospice Care for their loving care.
A gathering of family and friends will be held, Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., with a Celebration of Life to begin at 2:30 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, Port Arthur. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
