Alvin J. Sonnier

Alvin J. Sonnier, 84, of Groves, Texas passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at his home.
He was born on August 18, 1931 in Abbeville, Louisiana to Purvis and Mabel LeBlanc Sonnier.
Alvin had lived in this area since 1952 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, IBEW Local #390 and the Groves Knights of Columbus #3491. He was a U. S. veteran serving in the Airforce.
Alvin worked for Gulf Oil, but retired from Chevron as an Electrician Supervisor after 36 years of service.  After his retirement he attended his Airforce Reunions every year. He also loved to fish and he and Joyce enjoyed traveling all over the United States.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur with Reverend Kevin Badeaux officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
A visitation for family and friends will be Friday evening at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary service to begin at 6:00 p.m.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Sonnier of Groves; daughter Sandra Wimmer and husband, Ed of Austin; son Kim Sonnier and wife, Tammie of Groves; four grandchildren, Stephanie Brownstein and husband, Josh, Brandy Sonnier Tager and husband, Michael, Bridget Peavy and husband, Michael, and Michael Sonnier and eight great grandchildren.
