Mildred Louise Gouthier, 81, of Port Arthur passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015, in Livingston, Texas. Mildred was born April 1, 1934 in Paris, AR., to Ben Yother and Ruth Jordan. At age 14 Mildred moved to Port Arthur and later graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1953. Mildred worked at Pleasure Pier Roller Coaster selling tickets. It was there that Mildred met Nolan Gouthier, a young soldier in the USAF and within weeks they were married. They raised two sons, Nolan Jr., and Phillip and provided them both with a safe and loving home. Mildred supplemented the family income by working as a nurse’s aid at Doctors Hospital in Groves. She later was employed by Fina Oil Company and retired in 1999. Mildred was known as an animal lover who always had a special love for homeless cats. She had a special love for flowers and working in her yard. She could be seen pulling weeds for hours in the flower beds. Mildred understood the value of an education and “demanded” her sons finish college. She was strong, independent and a very loving person. Mildred was very devoted to her husband, Nolan Sr.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband, Nolan Joseph Gouthier, Sr.
She is survived by sons, Nolan J. Gouthier, Jr., and wife, Kim; Phillip Gouthier and wife, Tammy; grandchildren, Jana McInnis, Jessa Gouthier, Phillip Gouthier; and great-grandchildren, Nolan James Gouthier and Bonnie Rose McInnis.
