Patsy Garrett Drake

Patsy Garrett Drake was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. Patsy was born in Nacogdoches, TX March 11th, 1939 to late Archie and Jewell Boatman-Garrett.
When she was 5 her family moved to Houston, TX. Several years later the family welcomed her brother, Sherman Garrett. Her primary days she attended Aldine I.S.D. and enjoyed being a Worthy Advisor for the Melrose Rainbow Girls. During these years she also served as the Grande State Officer from Texas to Oklahoma. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with 2 degrees and a Master’s in Education. After college graduation she married the love of her life Raymond C. Drake and she started her teaching career in the Port Arthur School District. Two years later she transferred to the Nederland School District and her and her “Buna Boy “as she referred to Raymond started their family. Patsy retired as a teacher at Highland Park Elementary with Nederland Independent School District after 35 years of teaching. She was a member of several committees over the years including Alpha Delta Kappa, American University of Woman, Nederland Dance Club and many more. Patsy retired as one of “The Fabulous Five” after 37 years of teaching.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed her friends, playing bridge and traveling. She was an amazing and loving mother and wife. Her greatest pleasure was her three grandchildren Skyler, Colton and Drake. Her enjoyment was beyond compare while interacting and teaching them everything she knew.
Patsy leaves behind her husband of 55 years, Raymond C. Drake, Sr. of Port Neches, TX; eldest son, Raymond C. Drake, Jr. of Nacogdoches, TX; daughter, Kimberly and her husband, John of Katy, TX; youngest son, Garrett and his wife, Tammy; grandchildren, Drake, Skyler and Colton; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, Sherman Garrett.
Funeral Services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Harold Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Nacogdoches, TX. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or to the National Kidney Foundation.
