Volleyball roundup: PN-G starts 22-5A with sweep

VIDOR — The Port Neches-Groves Rock-A-Noos opened District 22-5A volleyball play with a three-game sweep of the Vidor Lady Pirates.

PN-G (15-9, 1-0) defeated Vidor 25-7, 25-21, 25-20.

Jade Weatherford, fresh off being named to the all-tournament team in Santa Fe this weekend, had six kills and eight digs while Emily Tolbert finished with 23 service points and 20 digs, both team highs.

Jessica Harper added 12 digs while Kaitlyn Boudreaux put in eight digs. Hannah Hernandez led the Rock-A-Noos with 21 assists while Baylee Priddy had 12. Libbie LeJeune finished with 11 kills and Carley Roccaforte had seven.

PN-G takes off Friday and returns to district play at home Tuesday against Lumberton.

Nederland 3, Lumberton 0

NEDERLAND — Nederland’s Lady Bulldogs swept past the Lumberton Lady Raiders on Tuesday in the opening District 22-5A match for both teams.

Nederland (16-9, 1-0) defeated Lumberton 25-18, 25-17 and 25-14.

Darcie Jones had three aces and nine kills while Emma Forsythe added four kills, 14 assists and nine digs. Caroline Noel finished the night with two blocks and six kills, Payton Swanson had one ace and 17 digs, Amanda Longlet had four kills and Courtney Noel added four blocks and eight kills.

Marlie Lee put in one ace, 11 kills, 15 digs and one block.

Nederland is off Friday before a road trip to face Beaumont Central next Tuesday.

Bob Hope 3, High Island 0

HIGH ISLAND — Outstanding performances by Kimberly Rodriguez and Vanessa Estupinan led the Eagles to a a 25-21, 25-14, 25-17 win over High Island to begin District 24-2A play.

The next varsity match for Bob Hope is next Tuesday at home against West Hardin.
