IRVING (AP) — The Cowboys have added undrafted rookie quarterback Jameill Showers to their practice squad and claimed tackle Jordan Mills after he was waived by Chicago.
Dallas made room for Mills on Monday by waiving linebacker Jasper Brinkley, one of the offseason additions after the free agent departures of Justin Durant and Bruce Carter. Mills could be the swing tackle after starting 29 games the past two seasons for the Bears, who drafted him in the fifth round in 2013.
Showers boosted his chance of making the roster by playing special teams in the preseason, and his addition means Dustin Vaughan is unlikely to return after spending his rookie season on the practice squad.
The Cowboys also added linebacker Dakorey Johnson, safety Tim Scott and tackle John Wetzel to the practice squad.
COWBOYS ACQUIRE MICHAEL FROM HAWKS
IRVING (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys have acquired running back Christine Michael in a trade from Seattle.
Michael was sent to the Cowboys on Sunday for a conditional 2016 draft pick. Defensive end Lavar Edwards was waived by Dallas to make room on the 53-man roster.
Michael was a second-round pick out of Texas A&M in the 2013 draft. He ran for 254 yards over 14 games the past two seasons with the Seahawks after running for 2,791 yards and 34 touchdowns in four seasons for the Aggies.
The Cowboys have multiple options at running back this season. Michael joins Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar in Dallas.
