Wilman P. Saltzman, Sr.

Wilman P. Saltzman, Sr. of Groves passed away Monday, August 31, 2015, at home with his family by his side. He was born in Kaplan, Louisiana to Wallace and Enola Hebert Saltzman on July 14, 1927. Wilman lived in Cameron, Louisiana where he worked for Louisiana Menhaden, owned several full service gas stations, built many homes as a carpenter which was his favorite and retired from Cameron Construction. He was a member of the Cameron Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years. Wilman was also on the Civil Defense Unit, Our Lady Star of the Sea Church Council and many other Civic Organizations. After retiring Wilman and his wife, Mabel enjoyed many years of camping and traveling. He and his wife moved to Groves, Texas in 1988. Wilman was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Council 5461 of Cameron then transferred to Knights of Columbus Council 3491 in Groves. He was also a member of Saint Peter’s Catholic Church. Wilman loved to work with wood, go fishing, camping, and visit with family and friends. He was a humble man whose accomplishments were many, though he never thought of them as special. He made cypress yard furniture, miniature houses and other small gadgets.
Wilman was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mable Cecile Adams Saltzman; parents; and two children, Tina Marie and Adam Lynn Saltzman.
He is survived by his children Cynthia Richard (P.J.), Conrad Saltzman (Debby), Jeffrey Satlzman (Mona), Cecile Dozier (Jim) and Wil Saltzman, Jr. (Tanya); 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Randall Richard, Darrell Richard, Russell Richard, Shannon Saltzman, Christopher Saltzman and Cody Saltzman. Honorary pallbearers are Seanna Lang, Carla Petry, Tabby Mathewson, Bronwen Theriot and Jaycee Saltzman.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2015, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Groves. Rite of Committal will follow at 3:00 p.m., at Abshire Cemetery, Kaplan, Louisiana.
