Gloria Ames Trahan

Gloria Ames Trahan, 92, of Port Arthur died Thursday, August 27, 2015. A native and lifelong resident of the area, she was born on March 12, 1923, in Port Arthur, to Gerome Genusa Ames and Frank Ames.

 

Gloria retired from Gulf Oil after thirty-four years of service in various positions. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and enjoyed square dancing. Gloria will be remembered for her excellent cooking, baking, and willingness to help wherever she was needed.

Survivors include her daughters, Julie Adrienn Hughes of Houston and Susan Hillin and her husband, Steve, of Beaumont; son, Jesse Owen Trahan, III of Beaumont; grandchildren, Katlyn Hillin Brister and her husband, Justin, of Orange and Tyler Hillin of Beaumont; great-granddaughter, Camryn Brister; brother, Paul Ames of Groves; sister, Jacqueline Mize of Soldotna, Alaska; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Harvey Trahan, of Nederland; and special caregiver, Pamela Garrett of Beaumont.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband of twenty years, Glenn Alvis Hughes; second husband of twenty-five years, Jesse Owen Trahan, Jr.; brothers, Anthony, James, and Johnny Ames; and sister, Ann Wilson.

 

A gathering of Mrs. Trahan’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Monday, August 31, 2015, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Broussard’s, Nederland, with entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Trahan’s memory to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105, or to a charity of one’s choice.
