PN-G WRAPS UP STAY IN DICKINSON TOURNEY
DICKINSON — The Port Neches-Groves Rock-A-Noos finished off the Dickinson tournament with a 1-2 outing Saturday.
PN-G (12-5) started the day with a two-game loss to Montgomery, 25-6 and 25-17.
Libbie LeJeune and Emily Tolbert each had five service points while Tolbert added five digs and LeJeune put in two assists and three kills.
Hannah Hernandez led the team with four assists, Jessica Harper had six digs and Hannah Jones added three blocks.
PN-G then defeated Little Cypress-Mauriceville, 25-23 and 25-19.
Tolbert had 12 service points and was followed by Jade Weatherford who added 10 points to go with 10 kills. Hernandez put in 10 digs and nine assists and Tolbert had nine digs.
LeJeune finished with eight assists.
The Rock-A-Noos fell in their last match to Brazoswood, 25-22 and 25-20.
LeJeune had seven assists and five kills, Weatherford finished with nine service points, eight digs, two blocks and five kills while Harper had eight service points.
Hannah Jones had four kills.
PN-G is once again on the road Tuesday for a match in Tarkington.
On Friday, PN-G swept Hamshire-Fannett Friday. The Rock-A-Noos won the match 25-7, 25-10 and 25-23.
Hernandez led PN-G with 21 service points and had a team-high 18 assists. Weatherford finished the night with 12 kills and two blocks while LeJeune added 12 assists and 11 kills.
Tolbert put in 11 service points and 14 digs.

SMU GOLF STAR GOES FOR HISTORY TODAY
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (AP) — NCAA champion Bryson DeChambeau and Derek Bard will meet in the U.S. Amateur final today.
DeChambeau, the SMU player from Clovis, California, defeated Sean Crocker, a sophomore at Southern California, 4 and 3 Saturday in the semifinal at Olympia Fields. Bard, a junior at Virginia from New Hartford, New York, beat Kenta Konishi of Tokyo 3 and 2.
DeChambeau and Bard will play the 36-hole championship match on the club’s North Course.
For DeChambeau, it’s an opportunity to join Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Ryan Moore as winners of the NCAA title and the U.S. Amateur in the same year.
“To be in that group of players would be incredible, but I still have work to do,” DeChambeau said. “I’m just going to play my game.”
As U.S. Amateur finalists, DeChambeau and Bard are expected to receive invitations to next year’s Masters.
“It’s been my dream since I was a little kid to play in the Masters as a professional,” Bard said. “I didn’t think I’d be doing that at age 20.”
