Gwendolyn Jean Matthews – Hunt “Gwen” was born on November 1, 1946 and made her transition on August 18, 2015. She was lifelong resident of Port Arthur. A Graduate of the Abraham Lincoln High School class of 1964. She was also a member of First Sixth Street Baptist Church.
Proceeding her in death is her loving parents Mr. & Mrs. Edmond and Edith Matthews, brother Raymond L. Matthews and sister Hilda “Darlene” Matthews.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara J. Hunt of Houston, Tx., and her son Jereem A. Augustine, Sr. (Tania) of Port Arthur, Tx., one granddaughter Britney S. Butler, two grandsons Jereem, Jr. and Jhalan Augustine of Port Arthur, Tx. Her special nephew Therold J. Palmer of Beaumont, Tx. God-daughter April T. Dugas of Port Arthur, Tx., two sisters Marilyn Frank and Madeline Hill both of Houston, Tx. And a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for August 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at First Sixth Street Baptist Church with Rev. Thurman Bartie, officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
