Kathleen Thompson Southard, 60, of Orange, Texas passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur.
She was born in Port Arthur, Texas on September 24, 1954 to Ruby and Leslie Thompson. Kathleen was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur before moving to Orange in 1997. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1973 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in History from Lamar University in 1977. Kathleen devoted her life to education, first teaching history courses at Lamar State College-Port Arthur and later as a substitute teacher for over 35 years, first with Port Arthur I.S.D. and then with Orangefield I.S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Larry Southard of Orange, her son, Aaron Southard of Orange, her daughter, Stephanie and her husband, Chris Jeane of Houston, her brother, Carl and his wife, Linda Thompson of New Braunfels along with two nieces.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM at Clayton Thompson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, any memorials to Kathleen be made as contributions to the Humane Society of Southeast Texas.
