Alice Jaynet Holst

Alice Jaynet Holst, 85, of Nederland, Texas, died Thursday, July 30, 2015.  She was born on July 13, 1930, in Grayburg, Texas, to Gladys C. White and Thomas P. Mahaffey. Jaynet married Dr. Edward Harland Holst on September 11, 1949.
From the beginning, Jaynet loved trains, traveling, and being with people – she never met a stranger and her home was open to all. She loved having a large family and events where all were together. Jaynet supported Harland, her husband of sixty-four years, through college typing dissertations and was a librarian for many years. She loved history, bluegrass music, and was the family storyteller.
Jaynet is survived by her daughters, Alice Mankoff of Denton; Karen Holst and her husband, Charles Lee, of Stephenville; and Debbie Gutierrez of League City; sons, Tommy Holst and his wife, Grace Bodemuller-Holst, of Rockwall and Michael Holst of Nederland; grandchildren, Kate Dolkas and her husband, Matt; Benjamin Mankoff; Kindell Holst; Savanna Holst; Rachel Gutierrez and her fiancé, Stephen Behar; Jameson Gutierrez; and Blake Holst and his wife, Ashley; and great-grandchildren, Ava Claire Holst and Samson Arthur Dolkas.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Marjorie Wydel McClusky.
A gathering of Mrs. Holst’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 2, 2015, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 3, 2015, at First Baptist Church, 1911 Nederland Avenue, Nederland, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
