A Port Arthur man who forced his way into a home and was met by a baseball bat wielding mother was quickly arrested early Friday morning.
Port Arthur Police responded to Villa Main Apartments, 901 Main Ave., at about 3:25 a.m. July 31 in reference to a burglary in progress.
Officers arrived in less than a minute and found the suspect inside the apartment where he was arrested. He has been identified as Jacob Jermaine Alpough, 33, according to a press release from Port Arthur Police Department.
Police believe the suspect forced entry into the apartment through the front door and the victim confronted the man with a baseball bat while protecting her children and property.
Preliminary investigation led officers to believe Alpough was likely under the influence of some intoxicant. That, along with the bat wielding citizen, prevented Alpough from making any attempt to elude officers for the crime.
The suspect was transported to the Jefferson County Jail and booked for burglary of a habitation.
The incident remains under investigation.
