Bark for Life dog wash fundraiser set for Saturday

Relay for Life of Mid- and South Jefferson County and Relay for Life of Beaumont will host a dog wash fundraiser Saturday to benefit the upcoming Bark for Life: A Canine Event to Fight Cancer in October.

Kara Baker Booth, Relay for Life of Mid- and South Jefferson County event co-lead, said all money raised at the dog wash will be split between the two Relay for Life groups for the county-wide Bark For Life on Oct. 31.

“Bark for Life is to honor our canine caregivers, because our dogs are with cancer patients every step of the way. They really are our companions,” Booth said Thursday. “We usually have 1,000-plus people come out to Bark for Life every year, so we host multiple fundraisers leading up to the event.”

Both Jefferson County Relay for Life organizations raise money for local cancer patients and their families, as well as for the American Cancer Society. Bark for Life presents a unique opportunity for people to be empowered through their canine companion partnerships and to contribute to cancer cures through the mission of the ACS.

The Bark for Life dog wash fundraiser is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Spurlock Road Vet Clinic, 2400 Hwy 69 N. in Nederland.

Dogs should be on a leash and up to date on shots. For more information, visit www.relayforlife.org/barkjeffersoncotx.
