Charlie Yates, 86, of Nederland, died Friday, July 17, 2015, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. He was born on September 2, 1928, in Shelbyville, to Mary Lee Johnson and William Nathan Yates.
Charlie enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was an exceptional caregiver to his wife, Jerry Ann. He loved spending time with family at his camp. Charlie retired from Texaco after thirty-six years of service. He served as a SeaBee with the United States Navy in World War II.
Charlie is survived by his sons, Lynn Yates and his wife, Pam, of Nederland and Wayne Yates and his wife, Debbie, of Lumberton; daughter, Karen Irvin and her husband, Niell, of Youngsville, Louisiana; grandchildren, Amanda, Melissa, Cory, Annie, Shannon, Cody, Kaleb, Kacey, and Kolton; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Abi, Allison, Avery Ann, Ashton, and Meckinzie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jerry Ann Yates; son, David Lowell; and numerous brothers and sisters.
A gathering of Mr. Yates’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 Twin City Highway, Groves.
