Michael Wayne “Mike” Sherman, 61, of Groves died Monday, July 13, 2015. A native and lifelong resident of the area, he was born on November 18, 1953, in Port Arthur, to Sylvia Nadine Dawkins and Carl Monroe Sherman.
Mike worked in construction as a heavy equipment superintendent and a truck driver. He was an amazing husband, father, and pawpaw. He loved old cars, Nascar, and his little animal friends. Mike will be missed by many.
Survivors include his daughters, Jenny Smith and her husband, Edwin, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Wendy Sherman and her fiancé Ben Beasley of Orange; and Candy Statum of Vidor; honorary son, Fito Granades of Port Arthur; grandchildren, Reagan, Anna Grace, MaKayla, Edwin, Jr., Jacob, Brandi, Sadie, and Porsha; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Cole, and Lillian; brother, Tommy Sherman and his wife, Glenda, of Port Neches; and his animals, Gizmo, Betty, Sweet Pea, and Dolly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife of thirty-nine years, Cherie Sherman.
A gathering of Mr. Sherman’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2015, at Broussard’s, Nederland. A private family committal will be held at a later date at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
