1922 – 2015

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: Lois Madden Copeland passed peacefully on to heaven July 2, 2015.  The youngest of 9 children, she was born on October 21, 1922, in Corsicana, Texas, to John William Madden and Amy Evora Jackson Madden.  Except for a brief period when her family moved to New Mexico for her father’s work, she grew up in Corsicana and graduated high school in 1941.  During WWII, she was working at the Firestone plant where she met a handsome farm boy turned pilot from Missouri who had been stationed at the Corsicana Air Field to train fighter pilots.  He took one look at this beautiful Texas girl and they fell in love.  They were married November 9, 1944, and shared 68 wonderful years together.
Rex and Lois lived briefly in California where Lois worked for Douglas Aircraft.  They next lived in Lyman Wyoming for 7 years before relocating to Groves, Texas, the mid 1950’s, where they settled to raise their family.  They split their time between Texas during the school year and Rex’s hometown of King City, Missouri, during the summer months where they enjoyed life on the farm.  Lois spent her life raising four daughters and providing a loving home for her family.  She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing big meals for family and friends.  She was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Port Arthur Texas, where she and Rex formed many life-long friendships with their church family.  Lois enjoyed playing bridge and was in a bridge club with dear friends for many years. She and Rex loved to dance and never missed an opportunity to take to the dance floor.  They also loved to travel and shared many wonderful adventures together. She worked off and on through the years at Dryden’s Department Store in Groves.
Lois was blessed with a happy life and a loving family which included 4 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  She spent the last 7 years of her life in Oklahoma City with her daughter Robin and son-in-law Doug during which time she became a great grandmother to two beautiful girls, Olivia and Emily, who brought her immeasurable joy.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Rex Eugene Copeland; infant daughter, Rozanne; her parents and 8 siblings.
She is survived by her daughters, Shelley Copeland; Joni Dixon and Randy; Robin Rodwell and Doug; Ginni Gilgour and Steve.  Grandchildren: Lindsay Dixon Bradley and Ryan; Heather Rodwell White and Michael; Ashley Rodwell Bridendolph and Will; Lacey Dixon Wostal and Lance; Chase Gilgour; Wil Rodwell; and Hailey Gilgour.   Great grandchildren:  Olivia Claire White and Emily Kate White.
