PORT NECHES — Port Neches Mayor Glenn Johnson has announced he will seek re-election to a fourth term as mayor of the city of Port Neches.
Johnson was elected to Port Neches City Council in 1996. He served as councilmember and as mayor pro-tem until 2002 when he was elected to serve the remaining year of the late Mayor Frances Monk’s term. Johnson then ran for this first full term in 2003 and has served as mayor since that time.
While serving as mayor, the city saw a number of accomplishments such as construction off the Splash Park at Port Neches Riverfront Park, updated downtown Port Neches infrastructure, obtained grant funding for improvements to downtown Port Neches with construction scheduled to begin in late summer 2015, established a drop-off recycling program and initiated development of the Port Neches Riverfront with additional plans in progress.
Two seats on Port Neches council are up for grabs this election season, that of the mayor and the Place 4 seat currently held by Robert Arnold.   Both the mayors seat and council are three year terms.
Filing for a seat runs from July 27 through Aug. 24.
