Tekoa Academy invites PAISD students to Purdue University

Tekoa Academy of Accelerated Studies STEM School invites the community to join in honoring our Port Arthur Scholars at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Rose Hill Manor, 100 Woodworth Blvd. in Port Arthur.
Tekoa Academy has nine students in grades 6-8 that have been accepted into Purdue University’s 2015 ScienceScape Program in West Lafayette, Indiana, June 20-26.  Purdue is providing housing and food for the students as well as paying $200 of each student’s $400 registration.
Tekoa is working with Southwest Airlines on discounted flights for travel.  Paula Richardson, CEO and principal, met with the Purdue representatives and explained Port Arthur has more deserving scholars so additional spots were opened allowing five PAISD students to join Tekoa in the program.
The ScienceScape Program is a week of science immersion for students in grades 6 to 8. The camp takes them into high-tech Purdue University College of Science labs to learn science that can be found in everyday life. Through professionally led experiments, participants are guided through activities that      allow them to explore and realize that science is all around us.  We are asking that the community  rally around to help with expenses of the $200 registration and $350 flight per student for our 14 daughters  to attend.
If there are any Purdue graduates, we encourage you to come and speak with our girls.
Donation to assist with student expenses can be sent to www.gofundme.com/TX59H4  (credit card) and checks made payable to Tekoa Academy-326 Thomas Blvd. Port Arthur.
