Elizabeth Ann Segler

Elizabeth Ann Segler, 76, of Port Arthur passed away June 12, 2015, surrounded by her family. Liz was born August 14, 1938 in Griffing Park, Texas to Allie “Red” and Mazel Hackney. She attended Tyrell Elementary, W. Wilson Jr. High School, Thomas Edison Jr. High, and Thomas Jefferson High School. Liz married Deral Segler on December 21, 1959 and raised 4 children together. Liz received her Bachelor of Science degree from University of North Texas. She also attended Lamar University and received her certification in Special Education. Liz taught girls Physical Education and coached girls track. She taught World History and coached at Lincoln High School. In 1994 Liz retired from P.A.I.S.D., because of health issues. She coached girls softball and later umpired both the men’s, women’s, and girls fast pitch. She even worked an adult men’s game, where “Senator” Parker was pitching. She took up gardening of healthy and nutritious health foods and was a member of Thyme for Herbs Society. Liz served two terms on Port Arthur’s City Council, the Port Arthur Beautification Commission and was a member of the Port Arthur Sertoma Club. She loved meeting people and helping those with problems.
Liz is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Al Hackney; sisters, Lilly Thomas and Georgia Belle Woodall. She is survived by her loving husband, Deral Segler; children, Steve Segler and wife Michelle; Chris Segler and wife Debbie, Karl Segler and wife Edel; and daughter, Anne Ochoa and husband Joe. Liz also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren to cherish her memories.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Funeral service for Mrs. Segler will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
