Verda Ann Miller Shanks was called home to meet our Lord and Savior on June 8, 2015 at her home in Watson, Louisiana with her family by her side.  Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters carried her through her short battle with cancer.  Resting in the arms of Christ her memory will never die.  Walking hand and hand with our Lord.
She was born Sept. 15, 1935 in Port Arthur, Texas.  She was 79 years old.  The oldest of four siblings, her sisters Glen Miller Britt, Janet Miller Belanger, and brother, James Aaron Miller.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Cassius Eugene Shanks to whom she was married for 49 years.  Her father Joseph Aaron Miller, mother Irene Fay Chadwick Miller, and sister Janet Miller Belanger.  Her wishes were honored by the family to have her beloved companion Cinnamon Spice (her dachshund of 15 years) accompany her in burial.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Cindy Shanks; two daughters and son-in-law, Debbie Shanks and Gary White, and Kathy Shanks and Simmitt Bankston Jr., and three grandchildren, Kayleigh Ann Shanks Arevalo, La’Riene Bankston Graham and Cassius Aaron White.  A sister Glen Miller Britt and brother James Aaron Miller along with many nieces and nephews.
She was a faithful and devoted member of Cornerstone Church and she and her service will be missed dearly.  Mom touched the lives of many people with her trademark sense of humor just up to the end.  We often referred to her as the energizer bunny because she just kept going, and going, and going.  She loved spending time with her life-long friends and widows in ministry group who loved and adored her.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually, but including: St. Joseph Hospice.
A memorial will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Cornerstone Church, 28280 S. Satsuma Rd, Satsuma, Louisiana beginning with a celebration of life visitation at 2pm and memorial service following at 4pm officiated by the Reverend Clint Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to St. Joseph Hospice Foundation.  Donations can be made by check or money order by mailing to St. Joseph Hospice Foundation, 17732 Highland Road, Suite G, Box 241, Baton Rouge, LA. 70810 or made on-line at www.stjosephhospicefoundation.org.
Services under the direction of Seale Funeral Service, Inc., Denham Springs, Louisiana.
Her children arise and call her blessed.  Loving wife, loving mother, your reward is at hand.  Shed no tears for me, I am with my Savior.
