Summer has begun and children everywhere are looking forward to months of heat, ice cream, and no school.  Thanks to the “Stephen and Mary Birch Foundation, Inc.” and “Friends of the PAPL,” the Port Arthur Public Library will be offering a summer reading program this summer from June 6 to July 22.

Every hero has a story, and the library is determined to show that local kids do not need a cape to be hero.  By examing the superpowers of heroes and heroines in both fictional literature and real-life examples such as soldiers and law enforcement, Julian Franklin aims to illustrate that the potential to be a hero lies in everyone, and that sometimes being a hero means doing the right thing.

The audience will participate in puppet shows, magic tricks, and other activities.  Particpants will have the opportunity to receive rewards, such as gift cards and restaurant coupons, for reading and journaling books.  Registration will take place from June 6 to June 13.  Beginning June 17, teens will have the opportunity to participate in a Computer Literacy Program every Wednesday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
