More Americans Dumping the Pump for Public Transportation

(StatePoint)  On June 19, public transportation systems across the U.S. are marking the ninth annual national Dump the Pump Day. Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), this day encourages people to ride public transportation and save money, instead of driving a car.

Started in June 2006 as prices were rising, the day emphasizes how public transportation is a great travel option that also helps people save money. According to the May APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-person household can save an average of more than $10,000 annually by living with one less.
