In order to avoid a collision, the driver of the semi truck made an evasive action to the left. As he did so, his vehicle struck the Dodge truck. The semi-truck continued into the median and into the eastbound traffic lanes of Texas 73 and the momentum from the impact caused the vehicle to overturn.

A local HazMat team was dispatched to the crash scene after the semi-truck began to leak diesel fuel from the saddlebags.

The driver of the 2003 International truck tractor, Joseph Flannigan of Bridge City, was transported by ambulance to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont with minor injuries. The driver of the 2012 Dodge pickup truck, Clinton Page of LaPorte, was not injured. Page was cited for changed lanes when unsafe.

The 2003 International truck tractor was loaded with roofing and window materials and a portion of the highway was closed  until the roadway is clear of all debris and is safe for travel.
