Marjorie LaVerne (Hutchinson) Pickett

 Marjorie LaVerne (Hutchinson) Pickett born on December 7, 1926 passed on to be with the Lord at age 87 on January 5, 2014.  She was born in Austin, TX, graduated from Anderson HS, degree from Tillotson Clg. (Huston-Tillotson University) and graduate degree at Lamar University.  

   She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and was an educator for 30 years beginning in Hobbs NM and retiring from Lincoln HS in Port Arthur, TX.  She taught English, Speech, Radio/TV and mentored the Debate team, commentators, and Campus Co-eds girls group.  She has hundreds of successful students who love her dearly and she is admired for her encouraging poems and her flamboyant, loving approach.

   Marjorie is survived by her daughter Rose Brown;  grandchildren, Tommy & Terrance Carson, Hershawna Turner; great grandchildren Audriana, Terra, Terrance Jr., Quentin Carson and Michael Swan; brother, Lonnie (Naomi) Hutchinson; sister, Mildred Thomas and numerous other nephews, nieces, and cousins.

   Visitation is at 10:30 am and services at 12 Noon on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church 3750 Bluestein Dr. Austin, TX.  Arrangements by Phillips-Upshaw & Richard Funeral Home, interment at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.
