Don “Red” Bennett

Don “Red” Bennett, 80, of Port Neches, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Christus Hospital-Saint Mary in Port Arthur. He was born on August 12, 1933 in Elyria, Ohio to the late Henry and Sarah Coffman Bennett. He was a lifetime and dedicated member and past Commander of the American Legion Butler-Redd Post 493 in Nederland. He retired as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration at Jack Brooks Airport. Red served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War Conflict.
Funeral services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H in Nederland on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. A gathering of the family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Red is survived by his daughters, Linda Wynans of Spring Hill, TN and Terrie Bennett of Nederland, TX; grandchildren, Kyle Bennett Moore of Nederland, TX, Alexandra Wynans of Spring Hill, TN, Chad and Ryan Moore; sister, Helen Bennett McCabe of Spring City, TN, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Richard Wynans, and brothers, William Trago and Robert Kenneth Bennett.
