Placette was shot twice, once in the chest and once in the shoulder while trying to protect children inside the restaurant who were dining with their family at a table next to his, said The Rev. David Placatte, Greig Placette’s cousin, in a story that ran in the Aug. 29 edition of The Port Arthur News.

According to a press release from Houston Police Department, three suspects, all wearing bandanas and masks, entered the Denny’s restaurant at about 10:40 p.m. Aug. 26 at 7300 Washington in Houston and immediately fired several shots. They ordered all customers and employees to the floor and demanded their property.

During the robbery, Placette and a restaurant employee were shot. The suspects then fled the scene in an unknown minivan.

Placette was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Hospital and the other victim was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.

The four suspects are charged with capital murder in the 182nd State District Court.
