LaBelle homeowner fires shots at auto burglar

A LaBelle homeowner told Sheriff’s Deputies Monday night that he had just confronted an auto burglar and fired three rounds from his shotgun at the man.

At approximately 11:57 p.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call from a resident in the 500 block of Berry in LaBelle. He said he was awakened  in time to see a man wearing a light colored T shirt and dark jeans inside his pick-up.

The homeowner retrieved his shotgun and confronted the burglar. The homeowner told sheriff’s deputies he fired a warning shot in the air followed by two rounds at the burglar. It is not known if the burglar was hit by the rounds. The man was last seen running down Berry towards Hillebrandt Road.

The vehicle was unlocked at the time of the incident. Nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone to lock their vehicles and not leave any valuables visible inside the vehicle.
