Flooding causes traffic jam near Rainbow Bridge

The heavy rains sustained overnight across Southeast Texas led to snarled traffic in Bridge City heading toward Port Arthur Wednesday morning.

Water covering a portion of Hwy 87 near the bait shop west of the Rainbow Bridge led to the closure of the right-hand land, in turn causing all westbound traffic to merge into a single lane.

The resulting traffic jam led to a lengthy wait for many motorist. One driver reported the wait at approximately 45 minutes from Ferry Drive in Bridge city to FM 347. Conditions will clear as flood waters recede. Drivers are asked to use caution when driving in areas of high water and urged not to drive in water of an unknown depth.
