A top Texas official who oversaw hundreds of millions of dollars in federal homeland security grants is facing possible criminal charges over a $7,000 planning contract.
Former Texas Department of Public Safety administrator Janice Bruno had not been charged as of Wednesday. She was fired as head of the State Administrative Agency this week after a five-month investigation into a contract with the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
Bruno has not returned phone messages for comment.
Investigators have referred their findings to prosecutors. Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange said she did not know which office was looking into possible criminal charges.
The regional council of governments is not suspected of wrongdoing. Mange said the allegations surround an internal violation of procurement regulations, but would not elaborate.
