Sparks is local American Idol

 Katelynn Sparks, 16, daughter of Brent and Terri Sparks of Beaumont, and granddaughter of the late Pastor Reggie Lloyd and his wife, Vera, defeated 83 people to win the “Fox 4 Wants to Make You An Idol” contest.

Sparks, who is on the worship team at her church, Cathedral in the Pines in Beaumont, will also open for Michael Sarver next Saturday when Fox 4 and Sarver will hold a free concert premiering his new album.

Sparks will move on to auditions in Austin at the Frank Erwin Center, Aug. 9-11.

Other audition cities include, Milwaukee, Wis., New Orleans, La., East Rutherford, New Jersey, and San Francisco, Calif.

Season 10 auditions for Idol began July 15 in Nashville, Tenn., where an estimated 10,000 contestants showed up. This year, individuals as young as age 15 are welcome to compete.

Contestants had three opportunities at Parkdale Mall on Saturday, a Round one, Semi Finals and then a Finale with top 10 finalists before Sparks captured the win.
