Three men were rescued off the coast of Sabine Pass after their boat began taking on water on Tuesday.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division received a 911 call about 6:48 p.m. Dec. 29 from the men whose 28-foot boat was tied to a gas well about one to two miles offshore.

The caller told deputies their engine would not start and the boat was taking on water, JSCO Chief Ron Hobbs said. The Marine Division was near Port Neches Riverfront Park at the time and responded to the call.

Marine Division deputies David Kelly and Reagan Baker notified the Coast Guard Station at Sabine Pass while in route to the area.

The two deputies located the men approximately 10 miles west of Sabine Pass near Sea Rim State Park. The individuals are employed by Anlock Inc. of Houston and were working to shut off the well. Their boat was left secured to the well partially submerged, he said.

The three men were identified as Michael Bradley, Thomas Conles and Oscar Gonzales of Houston. They were returned to the Sabine Pass Coast Guard Station at about 9 p.m. where they were examined by Stat-Care EMS and released.
