Nederland boys 1, Humble Kingwood Park 0

  NEDERLAND — Nederland captured a 1-0 victory over Kingwood Park on Tuesday night in Bulldog Stadium and the outing accomplished much of the purpose which Bulldogs boss Rob Bledsoe needed.

  The Dogs wished to have a tough playoff-caliber challenge to prepare for the post-season. They received almost more than that.

  “We got outplayed for large stretches of the game,” Bledsoe said. “It was physical and we looked a little shocked for the first 12 to 15 minutes.”

  Nederland (17-4-3) scored the lone tally in the second half off a throw-in by senior Jordan Landry. The ball glanced over the hands of Kingwood Park’s goalkeeper for an own goal.

  Sophomore midfielder Jordan Wagner injured his leg during the game and was expected to receive an X-ray on it today. His status remained in question for Nederland’s post-season opener.

  Bledsoe’s Bulldogs will begin their 4A playoff trek in Bulldog Stadium on Thursday night against Silsbee at 7 p.m.

 

Baytown Lee girls 1, Port Arthur Memorial 0

  Fourth-place finisher Baytown Lee (6-11 and 4-6) lobbed in one goal eight minutes into the game for the night’s only score as the Lady Ganders edged Port Arthur Memorial, 1-0, at the PAISD auxiliary field.

  The loss ended the season for coach Phil Mattingly’s Lady Titans at 7-12-3 and 0-8-2. Mattingly bemoaned the fact that his team thoroughly dominated shots on goal, 15-2, but never scored.

  “We played the game on the offensive end all night and missed shots,” Mattingly said.

 

Baytown Lee boys 6, Port Arthur Memorial 1

  BAYTOWN — Playoff-bound Lee leaped to a 4-0 halftime lead and downed Memorial, 6-1, in Stallworth Stadium on Tuesday night.

  Lee (5-6-3 and 3-3-4) relied on Luis Camacho and Wilson Irias for two goals apiece while Edgar Sanchez and Jesus Mendoza added one each. The Titans finished their season at 4-10-3 and 1-8-1 in District 21-5A.

  It marked the final game for third-year coach Brian Morgan’s five seniors led by the school’s all-time goal scorer Saul Carillo.
