A 30-year-old Beaumont man is behind bars after rear-ending a car and fleeing from police Monday.

Community Oriented Policing Officer Eric Wilson reportedly witnessed a green Mitsubishi rear end another vehicle at the corner of College and Martin Luther King. The driver of the Mitsubishi then tried to flee the scene as Wilson tried to stop the vehicle. The vehicle wrecked out at the corner of Blanchette and Avenue C and the driver, and lone occupant, was arrested. He was identified as Rickey Timothy Pomier.

Pomier then tried to run from officer after he had been arrested and was rearrested about a block away. Pomier was booked into the Jefferson County Jail and charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, a state jail felony, and escape, a third degree felony.
