NEDERLAND — Senior standout Stephen Zimmerman managed to contribute three goals and three assists Monday night as a surging Port Neches-Groves boys team blanked West Orange-Stark 13-0 at Prather Field.

Zimmerman and PN-G improved to 10-5-3 and 8-4-2 while coach Don Sandell’s Indians’ defense delivered its third straight shutout for senior goalkeeper Ryan LaFont.

The Indians also received a two-goal performance from junior Matthew Morrell plus one goal apiece by Justice Lloyd, Chris Fontenot, Greg Flores, Carlos Ortiz, Peter Zimmerman, Tanner Worley, Kris Halbert, and Doug Benton.

PN-G built a 7-0 halftime lead despite going into the wind during the first half. The Indians led the count in shots on goal, 31-2. WO-S fell to 0-13 and 0-13.

The Indians will host Little Cypress-Mauriceville on Friday night in Prather Field at 6 p.m.

Humble Kingwood boys 9, Port Arthur Memorial 0

HUMBLE — No. 13 never proved to be an unlucky jersey number for Cale Haas on Monday. The Kingwood senior scored four goals as state powerhouse Kingwood rolled by Memorial, 9-0, on Monday night at Turner Stadium.

Kingwood raised its record to 19-1-1 and 9-0, handing 19th-year head coach Kevin Johnson his 479th victory at the school. Johnson ranks among the top three all-time winningest coaches in Texas high school soccer history.

Five other Mustangs managed one goal apiece — Michael Schwarz, Vincent Martinelli, Zack Bridger, Justin Anderson and Marc Herzberger.

The Titans of coach Brian Morgan (3-14, 1-9) will entertain Baytown Lee on Friday night in the PAISD auxiliary field at 7 p.m.

Humble Kingwood girls 8, Port Arthur Memorial 0

Senior Shannon Rooney scored three goals and Memorial freshman goalkeeper Brenda Pulido turned in a terrific performance at rejecting a portion of Humble Kingwood’s barrage, but the Lady Mustangs still prevailed 8-0 on Monday night at the PAISD auxiliary field.

One of the state’s stronger 5A programs, Kingwood (17-3-1, 10-0) solidified its 21-5A league lead, scoring four goals in each half, but coach Phil Mattingly’s freshman net defender racked up a remarkable 16 first-half saves to keep the score from being more one-sided.

“Brenda really played a great game for us,” Mattingly said. “The score doesn’t show how great she played. They’re the best team we’ve faced all year. Our girls played hard and I was pleased with a lot of it. It was like a personal victory for the girls.

Memorial (7-12, 1-9) will visit Baytown Lee on Friday night in Stallworth Stadium at 7 p.m.

Nederland vs. Central boys, girls postponed

NEDERLAND — Monday’s inclimate weather conditions influenced athletic directors from both the Beaumont and Nederland school districts to reschedule Monday night’s District 20-4A soccer outings.

The boys game has been reset for Wednesday evening in Beaumont’s Babe Zaharias Stadium at 5:30 p.m.

The girls game will be reset for Thursday night in Nederland’s Prather Field at 7 p.m.
