A masked man who robbed a Groves bank Thursday is still on the loose. Groves police are investigating the robbery, which occurred around 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The police are looking for a thin built black man, about 150 lbs with a medium complexion.
The man entered the bank, located at 3434 Twin City Hwy., at 2:26 p.m. wearing a dark Adidas jogging suit, either black or dark blue, a black stocking cap with dark sunglasses and had a silver semi-automatic handgun.
According to Sgt. Darrin Terrell with the Groves Police Department, the masked man walked into the bank with the gun in the air and demanded the clerk give him the money in a paper bag he brought in with him. The man then left the bank on foot with an undetermined amount of money.
“The people in the bank couldn’t see him after he left so there may have been a car waiting for him,” Sgt. Terrell said.
The police received the call from the bank about the robbery at 2:30 p.m.
Because the bank is federally insured, the FBI were called in to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information about the bank robbery is asked to call the Groves Police Department at 962-0244.
