GROVES — A Groves man returned to his home in the 2600 block of 4th Avenue Friday morning to find a startling surprise.

According to the Groves Police Department, the unidentified man returned to his residence shortly after 2:40 a.m. and discovered two people attempting to burglarize his car.

The car owner reportedly confronted the suspects and discharged a firearm in the direction of the two people. The burglary suspects are said to have fled the scene in their own vehicle.

Groves officers said they received calls about shots fired in the area and responded to the scene in time to stop the suspects.

Authorities said the car had multiple bullet holes and that one of the suspects suffered a minor gunshot wound. Additionally, officers discovered crack cocaine inside the car.

One of the suspects was arrested and charged with burglary of a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. GPD said the other man fled the scene on foot and that officers are still searching for him.

The car owner who shot at the suspects was questioned by police, but was not charged with any crime.
