James Green considers himself a people person.
Having spent 17 years in the business office at Port Neches-Groves ISD, 26 years in the banking business and 11 years on the school board, Green, 67, has seen a lot of faces.
Now, the Arkansas native will rejoin the school board as its newly elected trustee.
“I hope the Lord gives me good decision making abilities,” Green said from his spacious Groves home recently. “I consider myself a people person. I have many friends within the district and get along well with the principals.”
Green is ready to do whatever it takes to lift the morale in the district and get pride reestablished.
“We have some hardworking people in the district,” he said.
Green is ready to join the school board he says “works well together.”
“I have no agenda,” he said. “All I want is to do the best job I can possibly do for the students, teachers and administrators of the district.”
Green retired from the district a few years back and has spent his time with his wife Sue, family and working two to three days a week doing bookkeeping for his son-in-law at Texas Auto Works Collision Center.
The Green’s have also spent time helping to care for Sue’s 95-year-old father and her 89-year-old uncle in Victoria and visiting with grandchildren in Arlington.
“And we’re very active at Friendship Baptist Church in Groves, we devote quite a bit of time to that,” he said.
Green’s wife is also a retiree of the school district having retired in 2004 after 30 years as secretary for the district’s director of maintenance.
A large motor home is parked outside the family home ready for the couple to hit the road. They haven’t traveled much since the hurricane but plan to make some road trips in the fall. Their favorite destinations are San Augustine State Park in east Texas and Nibblet’s Bluff in Louisiana. They also travel to other state parks and Corps of Engineer parks.
“When we go we usually go camping for two to three days at a time, short camping trips,” he said.
Since both James and Sue Green have had stressful jobs in the past their favorite pastimes when camping are just relaxing and doing some reading.
