All non-essential personnel for the City of Port Arthur will be excused from regular work duties on Tuesday. The National Weather Service has advised that precipitation and cold temperatures will make driving conditions hazardous from early Tuesday morning until some undetermined time in the future, according to a press release from City Manager Floyd Johnson.
City employees are asked to stay tuned to the local media for updates.
BEAUMONT — Due to the forecast of inclement weather, Lamar University will be closed Tuesday. Monday’s evening classes will be held as scheduled. All classes will resume and offices will open Wednesday.
Lamar State College-Port Arthur will close its campus on Tuesday, Jan. 28, due to the projected inclement weather in the region.
Evening classes will go on as planned Monday night at the college but all classes for Tuesday, Jan. 28, have been canceled.
BEAUMONT — Jefferson County offices will be closed on Tuesday due to the forecast of inclement weather.

All Nederland ISD schools and offices will be closed Tuesday Jan. 28 and Wednesday Jan. 29 due the approaching winter storm.

For the safety of staff and students, Catholic schools in the Diocese of Beaumont will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 28, and Wednesday, Jan. 29 due to the predicted inclement weather. The special celebration for Catholic Schools Week called the Rainbow Mass is also canceled. Catholic schools in Southeast Texas are St. Catherine of Siena in Port Arthur, St. Mary in Orange, Msgr. Kelly High School, St. Anne and St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School, all in Beaumont.
Due to severe weather and potentially unsafe travel conditions that are predicted to affect the Southeast Texas area, Hamshire-Fannett ISD will not have school on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The district will continue to closely monitor the weather situation throughout the day on Tuesday and will provide updates as needed. Port Arthur ISD will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 28 due to forecasted inclement weather. The district will make a decision on whether or not we will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 29 no later than 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

BEAUMONT — The wacky weather in Southeast Texas, for the first time in 25 years, has forced the rescheduling of 53rd Mental Health America of Southeast Texas’s annual meeting and gala.
The event was to be held Tuesday, Jan. 28. The event has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18 and will be held at the MCM Eleganté Hotel at 6:30 p.m.
A LifeShare blood drive to be held at Port Arthur News on Tuesday will be rescheduled due to the prediction of inclement weather.
The Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce’s 114th Annual Banquet is postponed due to the prediction of inclement weather, according to officials with the chamber.
