Save money and make a personal statement at the same time with homemade holiday cards. Send a smile with these easy, cost-effective tips to spread holiday cheer to family and friends.
Making a merry holiday can be as easy as a touch of glue and glitter, a swipe of the scissors and pinch of creativity.
Paper crafts are not just for the seasoned crafter, even beginners can create a card worth mailing with simple designs and a little planning.
• While fancy techniques and tons of details make for elaborate cards, the best design for making dozens of cards is a simple idea. For inspiration, check out craft magazines and holiday catalogs, or even holiday cards from years past.
• Card stock can be used to make cards of several sizes and should be on top of supply lists. Ribbons, glue or tape, buttons, glitter, stamps, ink pads, pens and markers will make decorating easy and fun. It is important to remember that if each card differs, that will only make it more unique.
• Getting friends and family involved can make for a fun card making party — and make assembling cards easier. Assigning a task to each guest, layering different designs and adding embellishments at the end will make for quicker card production.
• Even though the outside of the card is what will be seen first, the inside of the card will make the biggest impression on the recipient. Printing out greetings from the computer can aid in the legibility of the message, but handwritten notes add the personal touch that create the final masterpiece worth saving for years to come.
