PORT NECHES —
The Spindletop Rollergirls took to the Port Neches-Groves High School parking lot Wednesday evening to build speed, endurance and agility.
The roller derby team, which has been competing against Texas and Louisiana squads since 2009, has skated in Port Neches three or four times, Captain Sheri Ford (a.k.a. Ruby Ridikule) said.
“There aren’t many cars here and we have many options for practice, whether it’s skating down the road, staying in the parking lot or scrimmaging,” Ford said. “There’s cracks and bumps in the sidewalk, so you have to be quick and pick your feet and move — there’s also enough space for sprinting.”
The Rollergirls’ final bout of the season will be August 10 at Beaumont’s Ford Park. For more information, go to Facebook.com/Spindletop.RollerGirls.
