Fireworks, music and more are on hand for local Fourth of July events.

Port Arthur, Nederland and Beaumont will be host to family friendly patriotic events in honor of our nation’s independence.

In Port Arthur, Lakeshore Drive is the place to be on Independence Day.

Performers will take the stage at the Carl Parker Multipurpose Center, 1800 Lakeshore Drive, followed by a fireworks show over the Intracoastal Canal.

The event, which is free to the public, begins with a prelude in the Parker Center at 7:15 p.m, followed with the posting of the Colors by members of the Port Neches Veterans of Foreign Wars at 7:15 p.m.

A presentation of the LSC-PA and PALT cast of “Fiddler on the Roof” will provide a glimpse of the upcoming performance, scheduled for July 18-20 and July 26-27.

Other Fourth of July event performers include Jeff Courts bag pips, whistler Phil Guidry and singers Krista Courts, Dwight Wagner, Tom Neal and Garrett De La Certa. A barbershop quartet will also be part of the festivities.

The fireworks show, which can be seen from the seawall, begins at 9 p.m. Those attending should bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Event sponsors are Motiva Port Arthur Refinery, the city of Port Arthur and Lamar State College-Port Arthur.

Nederland

Nederland City and Chamber of Commerce will host the Second Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza on Thursday at Doornbos Park.

Entertainment begins at 7 p.m. with the fireworks show by ProFx to begin at 9 p.m. The pool will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. and people wearing red, white and blue get in free. There is a maximum limit of 150 people in the pool.

The ladies from First Baptist Church Ensemble — Deanne Tanner, Becky Seymour, Effie Keffer and Cindy Laird — earned the privilege of singing the National Anthem when they were named the winners of Nederland Idol.

Besides the quartet, two runners-up will perform other patriotic numbers. They include Allie Smith, 21, and K.D. Smith, 32.

Q94 radio station will broadcast the program so those who can’t make it to the park can hear the show on the radio.

There will be ice cream, Chamber of Commerce funnel cakes, the parks department will be selling hot dogs and drinks, Dominos will be on hand as well as MiMi’s Food Hut.

Organizers said the public is welcome to bring lawn chairs.

Beaumont

The City of Beaumont will host its annual Independence Day Celebration, now in its 27th year, at Riverfront Park on Thursday, July 4.

The park will open at 5 p.m. Bring your blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the fun, food and music. Foods such as barbecue, boudain, hot dogs, pork kabobs, funnel cakes, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, and ice cream will be available, along with cool beverages.

Musical artist J.A.G. will take the Riverfront Park stage at 5 p.m., followed by returning artist Folk Family Revival at 6:15 p.m., and Midnight River Choir at 7:45 p.m.

The Symphony of Southeast Texas joins the celebration again this year, performing at the Julie Rogers Theatre at 8 p.m. Please note, lawn chairs and coolers are not permitted inside the Julie Rogers Theatre. A musical salute to our nation’s independence will include “America the Beautiful,” “Stars and Stripes Forever,” “West Side Story,” and more.
