Things to Do: State Fair, Local bands fill out weekend

It’s a dance music party tonight at Dylan’s in Port Arthur as JAG keeps the tunes rolling all night long, while Saturday’s showcase features Greenlight Caravan. Shows start at 9:30 p.m. and admission is charged at the door for ages 21 and older.

Live acoustic music is featured starting at 8:30 p.m., every Tuesday free of charge and this week’s performance is by Lee Pelly of Knuckle Deep. Visit for information.

The Boudain Hut

Known for its reputation of good food and good music, The Boudain Hut deliver both on a regular basis.

Live music is featured by Creole Cookin’ tonight and Saturday, while Ridin’ High performs on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

spring is off to a great start at Larry’s French Market in Groves. Performances include Waylon Thibodeaux, tonight, and Jackie Caillier and Cajun Cousins on Saturday. State Fair

The 2011 South Texas State Fair concludes its annual 11-day run at Ford Park in Beaumont with loads of fun, food, games and excitement today through Sunday.

Get there early for rodeo excitement for the whole family tonight and Saturday inside Ford Arena, or, enjoy live music from a variety of artists.

Performing today are Toni Harrison, Shiny Ribs Russell and Hamilton Loomis. On Saturday, it’s music from Roll Over Beethoven, The Off Brand, Eazy and LA Roxx, a great 80’s hair metal cover band.

The South Texas State Fair goes Latin on Sunday featuring music from Grupo Batacha, Sonido Majico and more.

Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for students and seniors and free for children ages 10 and younger. Saturday is kids days as well. Visit for details.

Big Nasty’s

Joyce Rainey and karaoke are featured every Friday at Big Nasty’s in Bridge City, and guests ages 21 and older are welcome to come out and participate. Then, on Saturday night, a last minute schedule change has Darren McGill back at Big Nasty’s for a rocking good time. Admissions is always free. Call 409-697-3053 for details.


An acoustic rock music party awaits guests this Saturday night at Madison’s as Dead or Alive, also known as Butt Roxx, performs hits from the 80s and 90s. Also appearing is local musician Todd Howard. Admission is charged at the door for ages 21 and older.

The work week schedule has changed slightly, but El Floppy Tacos are still featured every Tuesday on the patio. Wednesday night is now the weekly karaoke party starting at 9:30 p.m., and Thursday night has live music from 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. Performing this Thursday is the band known as the Ramblin’ Boys of Pleasure. Starvin’ Marvin’s

Music fans who are in their late 40s and older may recognize the band name Mixx Fixxer. Well, get ready to party because the once dead band has been reborn and will perform a variety of old school classics tonight at Starvin’ Marvin’s Bar and Grill in Beaumont.

On Saturday night The Rock Agents perform on stage starting at 9 p.m., while the weekly Open Mic Night resumes at 7 p.m., Tuesday. Live music is featured at 7 p.m., Wednesday, from Kenny Wiebusch and The Outstanding Warrants.

The Gig

A new cover band has emerged on the Southeast Texas music scene.

The Means performed its first ever show this past Saturday and have quickly generated a lot of interest and secured a show this Saturday night at The Gig on Crockett Street in downtown Beaumont.

The band will blow you away with its song list, including songs by artists such as Johnny Cash, Bryan Adams, Sting, Eric Clapton, Live, Stone Temple Pilots and more. Admission is charged at the door for ages 18 and older. Visit for details.

Tequila Rok

Music is also found at another Crockett Street venue this weekend.

Tequila Rok welcomes Phil Pritchet for his first show ever at the venue, along with special guest Jamie Talbert. Admission is charged at the door. Then, on Saturday, Kris Harper is slated to perform. All shows take place on the patio, weather permitting.

Logon Cafe

It’s the first Friday of the month, and that means Ward, Bowen and Steinman are back at the Logon Cafe tonight for a fantastic evening of blues, rock, jazz and more. Admission is $5 at the door.

The Draw, formerly known as the Acme Bar Band, will perform on Saturday night starting at 8 p.m.

Karaoke is hosted at 7 p.m., every Tuesday, Open Mic Night is at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday and the Open Blues Jam is at 8 p.m., Thursday. Admission is free on each of these nights. Visit for details.
