PORT ARTHUR — Chris Stroud’s hole-in-one Saturday on the 181-yard, 13th hole at TPC Sawgrass in the Players Championship was his seventh ace, but first in a PGA Tour event. Three of the others, however, did come in competition — one in a high school tournament at Idylwild, one in a high school event at Pebble Creek in Bryan and one on the Nationwide Tour. Two of the aces came while he was at Lamar, but not in tournaments, and the seventh was at Spyglass Hill during a practice round for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Stroud’s $52,488 in winnings boosted him from 87 to 82 on the PGA Tour money list at $493,631. After skipping this week’s Byron Nelson he’ll return to the tour next week at Colonial . . .  Two players — Murphy Demarcay of Groves and Ron Overstreet of Port Neches — holed out from the fairway for eagle 2s at Babe Zaharias. Demarcay sank a 9-iron from 100 yards on the 18th hole. Witnesses were Paul Moore, Otis Norton, Richard DeLee and Charlie Iwasko. Overstreet got his eagle by sinking a 7-iron from 135 yards on the 291-yard, 4th. Larry Thompson, Gene Hardy and Pete Reobroi were his playing companions . . .
