Ratcliff scores ace, Stroud drops to 129 on money list

Beaumonter Pat Ratcliff was flying high on Saturday after scoring a hole in one on the 143-yard, second on the Bayou Front at Bayou Din. Rafcliff used an 8-iron for the ace, which was witnessed by Mike Bruni, Neder Bood, Mike Holland and Hank Harris . . . George Mauer of Wildwood also got in on the hole-in-one action last week. Mauer, playing in an MGA tournament at Wildwod Golf Club, sank a 7-iron from 150 yards on the 15th hole. Larry Keith and Jim Barnhart were his playing partners . . . Chris Stroud, after collecting $15,225 for his tie for 48th in the Turning Stone Classic, dropped one spot to No. 129 on the PGA Tour money list. Stroud has $549,115 in official earnings. The PGA Tour is idle this week with the playing of the President’s Cup, then resumes its fall series next week in Las Vegas . . . The Seniors at The Babe was played in a 2 Best Ball Format. The team of Jim Jordan, Scott Meents, Clint Daigle and Paul Duplantis won the front and the overall. The foursome of Don MacNeil, Art Miller, Art Spencer and Leo Bacon won the back. Closest to the pin winners were Sheldon Arnaud (No. 2, No. 12), Tom O’Grady (No. 7) and Robert Lynch (No. 15) . . . Major Rising finished with one point to win the Friday Seniors at Belle Oaks. Mike Barnett and Jim Brown tied for second at minus one. Bill Taylor was the closest to the pin winner on No. 15. The Monday Seniors at Belle Oaks was rained out . . . Ties were the order of the day in the Senior Game at The Patch, with three teams deadlocking on the front and two on the back. On the front, the team of Charles Heider, Joe Castleman, Carl Certa and Tommy Lemire, the team of Charles Cooksey, Wadsworth Thompson, Roland Geoffroy and Glen Frederick and the team of Larry Stone, Don MacNeil, Charles Scott and Paul Bailey finished at minus 3. On the back, the Heider team and the Cooksey team tied at minus 5 . . . The Babe Zaharias DogFight was played in a 2-Man Scramble. In First Flight, the duo of Trey Tate-Glenn Judice shot a 64 to edge the team of Drake Romero-Buddy Sepeda by a stroke. In second flight, there was a tie at 67 between the team of Tom Lawton-Harry Green and the team of Gerald Huebel-Marshall Rowe. In Third flight, Gary Anderson-Dave Colton won with 68, besting Ed Hetzel-Luke Wolford by a shot. Fourth Flight was won by Tommy Reeves-Harold Wilkinson (73). Cap Hollier-Art Miller finished a stroke back at 74. Closest to the hole winers were Bill Hatfield (No. 2), Teddy Davis (No. 7), Cody Metts (No. 12) and Brian Grant (No. 15) . . . The Belle Oaks DogFight ended in a two-way tie. The team of Richard Briggs, John House, Gene Harrison and Leonard Hendrickson posted 14&4, which matched the numbers put up by the team of Hilario Padia, Tom Stirling and Bob Briggs. In third at 13&6 was the team of Allen Sohoski, Larry Johnson, Brian Roy and Cap Hollier. Hilario Padia was the closest to the pin winner No. 15 . . . The team of Tom Lawton, Jeff Rinehart and Alan Davis won the Bayou Din DogFight with 19&5 . . . The second Joe Allen Jr. Memorial Tournament is set for a 1 p.m. shotgun Saturday at Belle Oaks Golf Club. The event has a 4-person scramble format, with an entry fee of $60 per player, with all proceeds after expenses going to the Lamar University golf program. Soft drinks, food and beer are included in the entry fee. There will also be door prizes and a silent auction and a 32 inch LDC/HD TV will be given to the holder of a winning $2 raffle ticket.
