Jim Huebel of Groves is the latest member of the 2008 hole-in-one club. Huebel sank a 9-iron on the 136-yard, 15th at Belle Oaks last Friday. Witnesses to the shot were Scott Stevenson, Kelvin Washington and Greg Guy . . . Reggie Bunyard shot a net 60 for win the Monday Seniors at Belle Oaks. Bill Taylor and Larry Guidry tied for second with 65s. Wally Istre (No. 8) and Mike Hebert (No. 15) were closest to the hole winners . . . In the Friday Seniors at Belle Oaks, Dennis Neef won with a net 62. Hebert was second with a 64, followed by Barry Jackson and Rufus Mier with 70s. Mier swept the closest to the pin prizes on No. 8 and No. 15 . . . The Seniors at the Babe was contested in a Team Select Drive Format. Placing first at plus 51 was the foursome of Red Brown, Gary Wagner, Dwain Taylor and Bernie Johnson. Second at plus 40 was the team of Ron Hebert, Ben Thornton, Joe Benoit and Ken Fabre. Third at plus 38 was the team of Art Lecoq, Don Rowland, Guy Van Cleve and Charlie Ingraham. Closest to the pin winners wre Wagner (No. 2), Tony Trahan (No. 7), Joe Benoit (No. 12) and Jess Evans (No. 15) . . . Mark Lee carded a net 64 to win The Palms at Pleasure Island Senior Game on Aug. 27. Butch Strange was second with a 68 and Joe Bennett third at 69. Strange (No. 7) and John Parent (No. 11) were closest to the hole winners . . . The Patch Senior Game was played in a 2 Best Ball format. The team of Charles Cooksey, Bill Draughon, Gene Harrison and Pat Waite and Jim Felder won the front side in minus three. On the back side, the fivesome of Larris Morris, Benny Epperson, Ron Theriot, Carl Certa and Glen Frederick won in minus five . . . The Belle Oaks DogFight was won at 17&4 by the team of Richard Briggs, Allen Sohoski and George Thompson. Second at 16&3 was the team of Mike Hebert, Steven Richards and Thad Borne. Third place at 15&3 went to the threesome of Hilario Padia, Davie English and Al Barker. Closest to the pin winners were Jess McPhillips (No. 3) and Tim Turner (No. 15) . . . There was a three-way tie for first in the Babe Zaharias DogFight. Finishing at 16&5 was the team of Kenny Robbins, Mark Roccaforte, Derrick Wolf, Buddy Silcox and Tom Stafford. Posting a 16&3 was the team of Billy Hatfield, Dave Colten, Harry Green and Cecil Bourgeois. At 16&2 was the team of Hilario Padia, Red Brown, Dave English, Jerry May and David Sinegal. Closest to the hole winners were Robbins (No. 2), Pete Reobri (No. 7), Billy Tucker (No. 12) and Don Varing (No. 5) . . . Kelly High School’s Tyler Thomas fired rounds of 76-75 for a 151 to win the Boys 15 and under Texas Junior Golf Tour tournament at Twin Rivers Golf Course in Waco. It was Thomas’ second consecutive win in a TJGT event and boosted his point lead in his age group. Upcoming for Thomas is a biggie — the season-ending American Junior Golf Association Mayors Junior All-Star event in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla Oct. 11-13. Thomas will be one of only three Texas juniors in the 54-player tournament . . . The 13th annual Joe Williamson Memorial Tournament is set to be played Saturday, after being postponed on Aug. 16. It’s a two-man scramble with an entry fee of $50 per player. Proceeds from the event go to scholarships at Nederland and Port Neches-Groves High Schools. Anyone wishing to enter should call 722-8286 . . . The Tyrrell Park 40-Year Junior Golfers Reunion, featuring Bruce Lietzke, is set for Sept. 19-21 at Idylwild Golf Club and Henry Homberg Municipal Golf Course. The tournament is open to anyone who played golf as a junior at Tyrrell Park from 1942 to 1982, including former Lamar University players and anyone who participated in junior high and high school events at Tyrrell Park during that period. The schedule of events includes a Friday night, Sept. 19 reception at Idylwild, an 18-hole tournament with a 1 p.m. shotgun at Idylwild on Sept. 20, followed by a 7 p.m. banquet, and an 18-hole tournament with a 9 a.m. shotgun at Henry Homberg on Sept. 21. Entry fee is $175 and inclues all golf and tickets for two to social activities on Friday and Saturday. Net proceeds go to the Henry and Juel Homberg Endowed Scholarship fund at Lamar University.
