For the second time in a month a Southeast Texas golfer has authored the rarest of shots — a double eagle. Billy Tucker of Port Neches holed a No. 3 hybrid from 268 yards for a double eagle two on the 530-yard, par 5, 13th at Babe Zaharias. The shot was witnessed by Ray Trahan, Ron Overstreet and Denis Odem. A couple of weeks ago, Rhett Roccaforte made a double eagle by sinking his tee shot on the 288-yard, par 4, 4th hole at Iron Oaks . . . Babe Zaharias was also the site of a hole in one by Johnny Sullivan of Beaumont. Sullivan used an 8-iron to score his ace on the 120-yard, 8th. It was his fourth hole in one. Playing companions included Dustey Abshire, Gary Anderson and Harold Wilkinson . . . Bayou Din was also the scene of a hole in one. Barrett Law of Hamshire celebrated after sinking his 8-iron tee shot on the 147-yard, 17th on the Bayou Back. Witnesses included Lori Schkade, Bill Lazar, Caleb Norris and Christine Norris . . . George Hawkins of Nederland shot his age for the first time when he fired a 76 at Babe Zaharias. Hawkins, a long-time trainer in high school athletic circles, carded nines of 36-40. He was playing in a foursome that included Art Lecog, James Bolten and Jim Stimac . . . Bill Gastinger of Nederland scored an eagle 2 on the 398-yard, par 4, 8th hole at Zaharias. Gastinger holed a 9-iron. The shot was witnessed by Bob Collin . . . Orangefield’s Garrett Granger got the Southeast Texas PGA Junior Tour off to a rousing start Monday by firing a five-under-par 66 to win Boys 16-18 at Sunset Grove Country Club in Orange. Tanner Lowe of China was second with a 74. Other flight winners included Cody Holder of Sour Lake (75 in Boys 14-15) Braden Bailey of Groves (86 in Boys 12-13), Brooke Brasseaux of Orange (92 in Girls 15-18) and Felicia Sauceda of Nederland (89 in Girls 12-14) . . . Winners in the Little Linksters division included Reece Picou (41), Tyler Ford (41), Brynna Bailey (58), Jonathan Miller (46), Brennon Moore (29), Griffin Patterson (29), Karlei Hemler (29) and Timothy Feemster (29) . . . The Evergreen Fabrication team of Rusty Fry, Wesley Fry, Lance Cabbot and Bill Hymell won a scorecard playoff after shooting 56 to claim first place in the St. Catherines School Tournament at Belle Oaks. Placing second with a 56 was the Motiva team of John Solis, Joe Depalvo, Chris Thurston and Juan Martinez. Closest to the pin winner on No. 3 was Juan Martinez. David Jones took the long drive prize . . . Mark Lawson shot a 51 to win First Flight in the Par 3 tournament held at The Patch. Greg Morgan finished second with a 54 and Trent Boudoin was third with a 55. Gerald Hubel, who played twice, won first (59) and third place (61) in Second Flight. Robb Parrish was second with a 60. Jason Davell was the Third Flight winner with a 62, edging Trent McGuira and Dennis Dubois (63) by a stroke. . Doug Printy’s 64 won Fourth Flight, besting Dennis Hearn (65) and Frank LeBlanc (67). The Junior Division ended in a three-way tie, with Drake Hernandez, Braden Bailey and Dillen all shooting 63s. Avery LeBlanc was the winner for ages 11 and under. Closest to the pin awards went to David McCoy (No. 4) and Mark Lawson (No. 13) . . . There was a two-way tie in the Bayou Din DogFight. The team of Hank Harris, Earl Miller, Mark Petry and Tommy Leon finished 18/6 while the team of Glen Judice, David Colten, Alan Luvierre and Gary Anderson was 18&4 . . . The fivesome of Bill Hatfield, Glenn Judice, John House, Charlie Huckaby and Leonard Hendrickson finished 16&2 to win the Belle Oaks DogFight. Second place at 15&3 went to the team of Mitch Priddy, Tom Stirling, Larry Johnson and Gene Harrison. Wayne Roccaforte was the closest to the pin winner on both No. 8 and No. 15 . . . Playing under a different points format, the Babe Zaharias DogFight was won by Billy Tucker, Dennis Odom, Ray Trahan and Ron Overstreet. They finished 38&17, with all points made on each hole counting toward total points. Three teams tied for second with 29 points each. Closest to the pin winners were Dennis Shaw (No. 2), Bobby Havard (No. 7), Butch Landry (No. 12) and Larry Stansbury (No. 15) . . . The Seniors at The Babe was played in a two best ball format with the team of Jim Jordan, Ray Kerwin, Sheldon Arnaud and Bernie Johnson winning the front nine at minus 4. They also won overall at plus 1. There was a tie at plus two on the back between the team of Bob Barnes, Henry Taylor, Art Miller and John Culbertson and the team of R.C. Russell, George Besse, Guy Van Cleve and John DuFour. Closest to the pin winners were L.J. Hardy (No. 2), Johnny Sullivan (No. 7 with an ace), Jobie Irvine (No. 12) and Ben Thornton (No. 15) . . . Norm Pasche and Larry Stansbury fired net 67s to tie for first in the Monday Seniors at Belle Oaks. Norm Shannon and Jim Brown tied for third with 69s. Pasche won closest to the hole on both No. 8 and No. 15 . . . The Patch Senior Game was played in a three ball format. Two teams — Charles Heider, Pat Waite, Gene Harrison and Ron Block and Charles Cooksey, R.J. Simon Charles Scott and Malcolm Clark tied the front at plus 3. The back 9 was won at minus 5 by the team of Gerald Huebel, Tommy Prejean, Wad Thompson and Carl Certa.
