Time for junior golfers to register for STPGA

Registration is ongoing for the Southern Texas PGA’s Little Linksters (ages 7-12), a new Junior Links Tour (ages 12-18) Tours and a Junior Tour (ages 12-18). First event on all three tours is June 9-10 at Idylwild Golf Club.
The Little Linksters program is broken down into eight catergories. They include Co-ed 7-9 (5-hole modified tees), Co-ed 7-9 (9 hole modified tees, Girls 10-12 (5-hole modified tees), Girls 10-12 (9-hole modified tees, Girls 10-12 (9 hle red tees), Boys 10-12 (5-hole modified tees), Boys 10-12 (9 hole modified tees) and Boys 10-12 (9-hole red tees).
All particpants must establish tournament eligibility by successfully completing n STPGA Instructional Clinic or Advanced Clinic. Information on the clinics, as well as tournament schedule and entry forms can be found at www.stpga.com
The new Junior Links Tour is for boys and girls 12-18 who have either just begun playing golf or have a need for more exprience rior to playing in the 18-and 36-hole tournaments offered on the Junior Tour. All juniors joing the Junior Links Tour will be required to compelte a three-hour, one-day Skills Clinic before playing in any of the group’s 9-hole tournaments.

The Junior Tour is open for players who are 12 to 18 as of Aug. 14, 2008. Juniors who are 18 are elibible provided they have not attendaed a regular semster of college and do not turn 19 prior to Aug. 15, 2008.
Competition is broken into five divisions — Boys 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18 and Girls 12-14 and 15-18 at each tournament.
All first year members, unless exempt, must successfully complete a junior Tour Skills Clinic to establish tournament eligibility. The fee for the skills clinic is $50.

CHIP SHOTS: Glen Hill of Lumberton gave himself a most memorable 35th wedding anniversary present Monday at Henry Homberg Golf Club in Beaumont. Playing in a foursome with Jack Bryant, Van Croft and Ray Rice, Hill scored a hole in one on the 170-yard, 8th hole, using an 18 degree hybrid . . . Tom Lawton of Groves made a hole in one that was different from most others at The Patch. Lawton’s ace went down as a double eagle since it came on the 245-yard, par 4, 8th hole. He used a driver. Paul Bailey and Buddy Bailey witnessed the shot . . . Jimmy Fetters also got in on the hole-in-one action at the Patch, sinking a 9-iron from 105-yards on the 7th hole. His playing partners included Don MacNeil and Mickey Raton . . . PN-G ex Andrew Landry, who transferred from Lamar to Arkansas two years ago, finished 41st in last week’s NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio. Landry posted rounds of 76-72-78 for a 226 total. That was three strokes better than Lamar’s low man, Leroux Ferriera. Lamar, 16th overall at 911, did finish three strokes and three places higher than former coach Brad McMakin’s Razorbacks in team competition . . . Bill Taylor, who was in a near fatal automobile accident three months ago, shot a net 65 to win The Monday Seniors at Belle Oaks. There was a four-way tie for second at 69 among Jim Robinson, Norm Pasche, Robert Bunyard and Dennis Neef. Taylor (No. 8) and Pasche (No. 15) were closest to the hole winners . . . Reggie Bunyard won the Friday Seniors at Belle Oaks with net 62. Pasche and Robert Bunyard tied for second at 67. Pasche won closest to the hole at No. 15 . . . The Seniors at The Babe was played in a scramble format. Art Lecoq, Ray Holm, Guy Van Clefe and Paul Brown placed first at minus 10. Second place at minus 6 went to the team of Tommy Trahan, Paul Bourgeois and Harold Wilkinson. Ray Holm was closest to the pin winner at No. 7 . . . Joe Bennett fired a net 60 to run away with the Wednesday Senior Tournament at The Palms at Pleasure Island. Carl Broussard and Billy Mack tied for second with 67s . . . The Wednesday Game at The Patch was played in a 2-ball format, with the team of Larry Morris, Don MacNeil, Benny Epperson and Ron Theriot winning at minus 10. Finishing second at minus 8 was the team of Larry Thompson, Gerald Huebel, John Fong, Paul Bailey and Dave Campbell . . . The team of Terry Melancon, Lee Comeaux and Curtis Pulver fired a blazing 53 in a scramble format to win the ABC Spring Tournament at Belle Oaks. Second with a 56 was the team of Kenny Tims, John Cradnell, Mark Armour and Ronnie Shilo . . . The Ridgewood Christian School scramble at Belle Oaks was won by the foursome of James Smith, E.L. Ellender, Nemo Lovelady and Hannan Bagwell. They shot a 61 to edge the team of James Roberts, Jason Allen, T. Roy Gragg and Craig Trahan by one stroke . . . The Babe Zaharias DogFight was won by the team of David Evans, Jim Mercer, Tom Terrell and Ed Campbell. They finished 21&9. Second at 20&8 was the team of Mike Weatherly, Billy Tucker, M. Pratt and Dave Sturgall. Closest to the hole winners were Ron Overstreet (No. 2), Red Brown (No. 7), Cecil Bourgeois (No. 12) and Darrell Dugas (No. 15).
