Former PN-G and Lamar University golfer Andrew Landry bit the hand that once fed him last weekend at the Border Olympics in Lardeo.
Landry, who transferred from Lamar to Arkansas when then Cardinal coach Brad McMakin took the Razorbacks coaching job, shot rounds of 71-73-70 for a 54-hole score of two-under-par 214 to place second. His performance enabled Arkansas (867) to beat Lamar (872) for the team title by five strokes.
The Border Olympics continued a string of strong outings for Landry, who had finished fifth the previous week at the USD Callaway Invitational in Rancho State Fe, Calif. In 22 tournaments since transferring to Arkansas, Landry has 8 top fives and 15 top tens.
He’s currently ranked No. 77 among Division 1 collegiate golfers by GolfStat.
Casey Clendenon (215) and Justin Harding (216) paced Lamar at the Border with fifth and sixth place finishes, respectively. Russell Helson tied for 8th at 222 and Lerouf Ferreira tied for 35th at 223.
Lamar’s next tournament is March 23-25 when it travels to Awendaw, S.C. for the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.
